Animals

Our next unit in science would have been about animals! We would have learned all about their adaptations, behaviors, and environmental factors. For example, learning why birds have different beaks, animal migration, why a giraffe has a long neck, and/or why an animal would be able to camouflage. This week have your child do an animal research project. Be sure to learn about the animals adaptations, habitat, are they a predator/prey, and their environment. I am attaching a YouTube video that takes you on a virtual field trip to learn about a few animals and their adaptations. I also am including a worksheet you may use for your child to create their project. MyON has a ton of book over animals so feel free to use that as well. Brainpop is one of my favorite resources to teach and has videos on migration, hibernation, life cycles etc. Brainpop is awesome because it also has quizzes and activities. Make sure to use JR Brainpop. If you need more information or resources please message me on dojo and I can get you what you need!

Journaling

Please keep writing at home! It is important for students to not only communicate with others verbally, but to also be able to put their thoughts into words. Here are a few writing prompts to have kids write about:

  1. Tell about your favorite book.
  2. Tell about your favorite holiday. Tell why it is your favorite.
  3. Tell about a time when you were kind to someone.
  4. What is something that makes you ANGRY!!!!!
  5. Tell about your favorite food and why it is so good.
  6. What would happen to you if you never went back to school?
  7. If you could be president, what changes would you make?
  8. Write a list of things you like to do when you can not watch television or play video games.
More writing prompts found at Journal Buddies.

It is important that they give details and not a short simple response. Have them make sure they have capitalized letters and punctuation. One giant sentence is not acceptable. Also, have them reread their own writing to make sure it makes sense. Of course if you have any questions, please feel free to ask either through the blog or through DOJO.
